The Police announce their final concert ever?

Sting

The Police have gotten togeth with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and staged a press conference to announce their final concert ever. They plan to contribute $1 million to Bloomberg’s MillionTreesNYC initiative, which the city will match.

The concert’s venue as of yet is still unnamed.

The $2 million will aid the planting of trees all over New York City.

Sting said, “Some people may be surprised to know that the greatest single contribution to greenhouse gases is deforestation. We all want cleaner and cooler air, and planting trees is the best way to achieve that. We have a long history in New York. We came here first in 1978. We want to leave a gift that will last for decades.”

Sting refused to comment on where The Police’s final show will be, other than to state it will “probably be indoors”.

During the press conference, each member of the band received a key to the city by the Mayor. Afterwards, Sting presented the Mayor with an all access backstage pass for the group’s remaining shows.

Coldplay does a buy one, get one free with their music?

Chris Martin

Coldplay has decided to sell their new songs as a BOGO?????? Interesting, indeed.

Frontman Chris Martin says, “Buy one get one free, it comes from working in Kwik Save, I think. As I said before nobody buys albums any more, certainly no body buys full albums and we’ve made an album that you have to have from start to finish.”

And the singer insists it was very hard to make a follow-up to 2005’s hugely successful X+Y, which gained them their first number one in the U.S. album chart.

He adds, “I think we were a bit anthemed out after X+Y. I feel like we’ve got everything to prove and everyone to prove it to this time.”

Sources say that there’s going to be an Amy Winehouse/Pete Doherty duet in the works. It sounds to me like a match made in crack heaven!

When Petey gets out of the pokey, he plans to sing at London’s Royal Albert Hall where he was forced to scrap a gig when he was thrown into jail.

This oughtta be interesting.

Oh yeah, check out Amy’s hickey. Her vampire Blake Incarcerated must have been hungry.

Rumors are abuzz now that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr might be reuniting for a historic performance.

Snoop Dogg has signed up to work with Lindsay Lohan on her forthcoming album. Snoop is rumored to be joining Timbaland and Pharrell Williams to give Lindsay’s album “street cred”.

Showbiz journalist Roger Friedman says, “UMG is sparing no expense on this recording, bringing in all the usual suspects like Timbaland and Pharrell to make a good record for the rehabbed and revived Lindsay.”

Hope this one doesn’t suck as bad as the last one.

Will.I.Am will replace Fergie with Cheryl Cole if Fergie ever quits

Black-Eyed Peas

Will.I.Am has said that he has a backup plan in case Fergie ever plans to leave the Black Eyed Peas, he’ll replace her with Cheryl Cole.

The groups members are currently on hiatus while taking part in their own solo ventures, but plans to get back together for future albums and tours.

Will has recently collaborated with Cheryl on his new song Heartbreaker and says that if Fergie ever decides not to rejoin them, she would be his first choice:

He says, “If we didn’t (have) Fergie, she (Cole) would be in the Peas - that’s how cool she is.”

I have to wonder what that would sound like.

Damon Albarn plans album with 130 musicians

Blur

Former Blur frontman Damon Albarn has been hinting at plans to release an unusual sort of album.

He says that his latest endeavor will involve more than 100 musicians and will include a Chinese choir and a full orchestra.

He says, “This one’s got about 80, 90 musicians on it - something in that region. It’s got a 100-piece Chinese choir on one of the tunes. That plus the orchestra probably goes to about 120-130 people,” he added.

He has also said that there will be a monkey connection, which prompts us to think that Gorillaz will also take part by stating that the title has “something of monkeys in there”.

Interesting. We’ll keep our ear to the ground on this one, it sounds pretty cool.
