When you think of The Beatles, I’m sure the first thought that doesn’t come to your mind is drugs. Am I close? Former Beatle Paul McCartney tells us otherwise.

In a new interview, McCartney says, “We were overdoing substances and really getting crazy, as we all were….falling asleep – the kinda thing when you can hardly get your head off the pillow. You go, ‘Woah, I’d better get my head off this pillow.’”

He said that their drug induced days inspired them to write “Let It Be.” McCartney explains, “I had a dream, where my mother, who had been dead, by then, ten years came to me in the dream and was very sort of helpful and very calming, and it was lovely just to see her…and she said, ‘Don’t worry about it…Let it be.’”

He adds, “I went, ‘Okay’, and I felt so good… and I woke up and wrote Let It Be. I thought, ‘That’s a good idea for a song.’”

Who knew that this four clean cut boys were into such mayhem?

According to The Sun, the Beatles legend wants to do a spectacular show and take it on the road to China’s Tiananmen Square, along with Berlin’s Checkpoint Charlie.

A source said, “Paul wants to go out with a bang. He’s played countless stadiums over his 50-year career and is on the hunt for the most unusual locations he can find. He realizes that the older he gets, the less his body will be able to cope with the demands of extended periods on the road. He might play the odd benefit gig if the likes of President Obama gives him a bell – but other than that he’ll be putting his feet up and enjoying retirement. The tour in 2010 is likely to last well over a year, by which time he will be almost 70. He’s making inquiries about a number of special locations and he’s keen to play in China and at Checkpoint Charlie.”

How about coming to Cleveland? I guess we’ll have to wait and see, when the tour dates are rolled out. Stay tuned!

The remaining members of Led Zeppelin have already decided to tour next year without Robert Plant. Much to my dismay, they are auditioning replacements for Plant and are going to name their band something else.

Paul McCartney has come forward to express his disappointment at the band for reuniting without Plant. He basically says that the reunion won’t be the same without Plant.

He says, “What’s happened to Planty? He was great at their gig. It’s such a pity.”

Paul McCartney has apparently taken a nice dig at his ex-wife Heather “Mucca” Mills on his new album for his side project, The Fireman.

The opening song, called Nothing Too Much, Just Out Of Sight, contains lyrics that are said to be an attack:

The last thing you do was try and betray me
In new morning light
I’ll never forget it
And that’s just outta sight

He signs off with this nice little tidbit: And you have money/ And no manners.

Paul McCartney is set to play a historic gig in Israel 40 years after The Beatles were banned from playing there, sources say.

They were due to play a concert in Israel in 1965, but they were banished after the then-government refused to grant the necessary permits over fears that their music would corrupt their youth.

Israeli officials have revoked the ban earlier this year and Paul is due to perform in front of 250,000 fans in Tel Aviv in September.

A source says, “Paul is desperate to put Israel on the map of places he has performed.”

Rumors are abuzz now that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr might be reuniting for a historic performance.

To celebrate the city being named 2008’s Capital of Culture, The Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, England is hosting the Sound City music festival, where McCartney is going to take the stage.

After Liverpool’s City Council granted Paul’s production company $3.4 million to stage the event, fans are now speculating that the singer is planning a special gig, one that includes former Beatle Ringo Starr.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star, “There’s been a lot of chat in Beatles fan chatrooms on the internet and the feeling is that it could happen.”

The four-day festival takes place from 27-30 May at the Hard Days Night Hotel and various other city venues.

Paul McCartney has had an angioplasty? The 65 year old former Beatle is being reported as having the routine operation recently. They are saying that Paul is lucky because he is in such good shape as opposed to the rock and roll lifestyle that he once lived.

A source said: “Paul had been complaining about not feeling well and saw a Harley Street specialist at The London Clinic.

“Tests were carried out and the decision was taken to operate. Paul had the angioplasty in a private hospital. It was all very routine but any work on your heart is a big deal.”
