Metallica’s James Hetfield reaches out to Jason Newsted?

Metallica frontman James Hetfield wants to end his feud with former bassist Jason Newsted. He has invited Jason to rejoin the band if they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

They’ve already been nominated for entry in 2009, and James wants to use that as a tool to bring together all of the musicians who have appeared on Metallica’s albums.

He says, “Everyone that played on a record should be there. You’re considered for the Hall 25 years after your first recording, not after you formed. Jason Newsted should be up there, he was in the band for 14 years and played on quite a few records. And so should Robert.”

We’ll find out later this month if they are actually going to be inducted.

Simon Cowell confirms Britney Spears appearance on The X Factor

Britney Spears

Simon Cowell has confirmed that Britney Spears is set to appear on The X Factor to perform her hit song, Womanizer.

Simon says, “I’m really excited about it. She has her act together and the new record is terrific. She has come back from a very dark place and is a terrific artist.”

Isn’t that the nicest thing you’ve ever heard Simon say about anyone?

Britney is slated to appear on the show later on this month.

Will you watch? I’d have to wonder if she would be actually singing or lip-syncing?

Cher isn’t retiring anytime soon

Cher

Cher isn’t going to give up performing live anytime soon. She says that she wouldn’t know what to do with herself if she wasn’t performing.

She’s set to return to the Vegas stage in February with her act at Caesar’s Palace. She believes that she’s got years of performances ahead of her, and with her outlook on the whole thing, I don’t doubt it.

When she was asked of any plans to quit the show, she says, “And do what? Nothing? What would I do? I’m not comparing myself to this but if someone said, ‘Oh Picasso, you’ve painted so many pictures, get some frames and go home.’ I’ll do my work as long as I can do it, as long as people show up.”

Good for her, not many performers can look that good and still sing at the age of 62.

Update! The Jackson 5 are gearing up for a 2009 reunion!

The Jackson 5

The Jackson 5 are gearing up to reunite in 2009! According to eldest brother Jermaine Jackson, the group will have Janet open for them.

Jermaine says, “This has been a long time coming for the Jackson family to get back together. It is just the timing, so what we’ve been doing is working on the music and all the logistics. It is going to be more like a family affair, Janet’s going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5…Michael, Randy, and the whole family…We’re in the studio, we’re planning on being out there next year.”

I feel like Butthead saying, “Uhhhhh….where’s Tito?” Michael is going to look very odd next to his much darker family. Think Wacko Jacko can no longer make it as a solo artist? Or is he trying to spread the wealth around a little?

Update: Michael Jackson is not taking part in any reunion with his brothers. Liar, liar, pants on fire!!

Noel Gallagher has already written the next Oasis album?

Noel Gallagher

After just weeks of their release of Dig Out Your Soul, Noel Gallagher says that he has already written the band’s next album.

The group released their seventh album earlier this month, but Noel has already gotten finished with the followup LP. He’s also working on an unnamed solo project.

He says, “They all seem to be based around the same four or five chords. It’s vastly different from what Dig Out Your Soul is. There’s stuff about soldiers and religious people and rock stars and travellers. They seem to be all songs about people, but not people I know. And they all seem to have a narrative; it’s kind of like a story which follows on from song to song.”

Sometimes work written quickly or when the artist has an idea, it turns out to be pretty decent. Let’s hope this is the case with Oasis’ followup album.

Led Zeppelin is looking for a replacement for Robert Plant

Led Zeppelin
[Image Credit: Mick Y via Flickr]

John Paul Jones has confirmed the news that Led Zeppelin is about to go on a world tour after they’ve found a replacement for Robert Plant. They offered Plant the opportunity to get back together with the group, but he declined.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was rumored to be stepping into Plant’s shoes, but they’re heavy shoes to fill. Think he could do it? While I love both singers, there just isn’t going to be another Robert Plant.

John Paul Jones says, “As soon as we know who it is, we’ll let you know who it is.”

He’s still holding out for Plant to change his mind, maybe in a “few years”?

Slash is planning a solo album

Slash
[Image Credit: I Do Shows via Flickr]

Slash is working on a solo album and/or a possible third Velvet Revolver album, slated for 2009. He said that he’s “at the very tail end of the demo phase” for his solo effort and hopes to begin recording next year.

During Velvet Revolver’s last tour, he began working on material and says, “There’s really no particular direction. I just wanted to take a little bit of a break from all the politics and the democracy that is a band and just sort of do my own thing for a little bit. There will be a lot of stuff I don’t have the freedom to do in a band situation.”

He also revealed that the new solo album will feature various singers on each of the songs. He doesn’t give us a hint as to who he has in mind, but says that they’re all sort of well-known.

Slash is an excellent guitarist, I’d probably buy his solo stuff just to check it out.

There might be a Kinks reunion

Ray Davies

The Kinks are reportedly closer to getting back together as Dave Davies is feeling better after suffering a long illness.

The group recently said that they were only three quarters of the way towards reuniting for recording and live gigs, but still have to wait on Dave, who’s recovering from a stroke.

Ray Davies says, “Dave seems very chipper and on good form. He’s moving well and has made good progress. My thought is we’ll do it (the reunion).”

I just want to hear them do You Really Got Me and Waterloo Sunset live. How about you? Do you have a favorite Kinks song?

Sean Combs is going to be the Pope for Halloween?

Sean Diddy Combs

Sean Combs is about to upset Catholics everywhere by dressing up as the first black Pope for Halloween. He says that he already has his costume ready and is ready to attend some Halloween parties with it on. Anything to be controversial or whatever, right?

He says, “I bought the costume, the robe and the hat from a secondhand costume store is Los Angeles.”

I guess he couldn’t be any creepier unless he dressed up as Michael Jackson. He’s just probably looking for shock value in attempt to get the Catholics’ panties in a wad, but he’s not getting it here. For one, I’m not Catholic, and for two, I live in Cleveland, we’ve seen a lot. What else ya got, Diddy?

There’s going to be a Jane’s Addiction reunion after all?

Perry Farrell

Jane’s Addiction might be having a reunion after all!

We previously reported that frontman Perry Farrell said that there’d be no Jane’s Addiction reunion, but now it has been revealed that they’ll be playing a show tonight.

The group got together to perform at a party in September, and now the original lineup will play again tonight at La City Bar in L.A. The party will be hosted by artist Shepard Fairey.

He has said that the reunion would be unlikey, but after playing together again tonight, let’s see if he changes his tune.

What do you think? Are they testing the waters or are they going to get back together for real this time?
